Coachella 2011: Empire of the Sun
Australian Electro-pop outfit Empire of the Sun mesmerized the crowds with their elaborate costumes and theatrical show at the Coachella music festival in Indio on Saturday April 16, 2011.
For those not familiar with the band, Empire puts on a dramatic stage production, like watching a prog-funk mix of Devo, Grace Jones, Prince, Gwar, and Lady Gaga. The visuals and costumes were a beautiful mix of feathered headresses, utopian space-aged mermaids, violent Geishas and hot pink horses playing illuminated guitars.
Lead singer Luke Steele emerged from behind a silk backdrop to open the show with "Standing on the Shore" and continued to put on one of the most impressive shows we have ever seen (and we have seen a million shows).
